Captain Quail 13 - Can Has (Sept. 12, 2013)

The whole lolcats phenomenon is kind of weird. If someone had told me a decade ago that putting captions on pictures of animals would become one of the primary ways the Internet expresses itself, I probably would have refused to believe them. It seems like one of those fads that should have burned out within a year, and has continued on despite expectations.

Some semantics: pictures with overlaid with text in impact font are memes, but not all memes are pictures overlaid with text in impact font. Meme is just giving a word to something that has existed since there have been humans. I personally like the Reddit-inspired name Advice Animals for these lolcat derivatives, but using the word meme to describe only funny captioned pictures on the internet is kind of missing the point of the word. This paragraph is more of a rant than I intended, but I’m betting there’s a couple people out there who really dig semantics and agree with me.

I really don’t have a lot for today’s post, I’m sorry to say. We’ve got a lot of cool stuff coming up for the site, hopefully some awesome big changes, and we’re spending most of our free time working on those things.

Some things you can look forward to, in the future:

Epic battles
More pop culture references
A whole new site
And a whole new comic!

We will also be at the Alternative Press Expo in San Francisco October 12-13. We won’t have a booth or anything, we’ll just be there having a good time and seeing all the other awesome stuff people are making. We might even have Captain Quail t-shirts!

That’s about all that’s in my brain right now, that I can talk about. Exciting stuff ahead, stay tuned.

Thanks,

Philip
