All we need is a roadrunner and the gang's all here.

Captain Quail 88 - Howl (May 30, 2014)

Let’s mix things up.

Its Friday, which means its time for our Webcomic O’ the Week! Continuing our semi-theme of Western-themed comics, let’s talk about Freelancers. Now we have covered a large amount of Western comics on this feature, and we’ve seen a lot of ways to approach the material. Centaurs. Cyborgs. Steampunk. But when we hear the words ‘Space Western’, Firefly is the first thing that comes to mind. And if Freelancers isn’t a homage to Firefly, with an amazing take on true alien races (possibly mutants?), then I’m even more impressed at how much they were able to invoke that atmosphere. Everything from the ships to the characters to the world makes me think “Everything’s shiny, cap’n!”, and this is a good thing. Have I mentioned the art yet? The art is fantastic, and struck me from page one about how clean and well polished it looks. TL;DR: Go read Freelancers, and then start a Firefly marathon this weekend.

Since I changed the order this week, I’m not sure what else to say. I often feel like my little commentaries on life, etc, are just lead-ins to the reviews, so this may now be superfluous. I guess I could talk about _this_ comic, which I’m still really excited about. This storyline has me especially excited. It gives us a chance to explore new environments, new characters, and tie together some older story arcs. We hope you’ve been enjoying it as much as we are.

Thanks, and have a great weekend.
